Blind = 瞎 / 盲
有很多有趣的俚語及諺語與 blind 相關喔~~
1. blind as a bat
字面上的意思是「跟隻蝙蝠一樣瞎」。
真正的意思是用來說一個人「視力很差」、「幾乎盲目」。
e.g. She's as blind as a bat without her glasses.
也可以用來說一個人「看不見問題或缺點」。
e.g. She's as blind as a bat to her boyfriend's affairs.
2. There's none so blind as those who will not see.
真正的瞎子是睜著眼不看事實的人 / 有眼不看者為盲。
基本上就是在說哪些不願面對 或 承認真相的人。
3. turn a blind eye (to someone or something)
睜一隻眼閉一隻眼 / 視若無睹。
明明知道真相卻忽略或假裝不知道。
e.g. My sister turned a blind eye to her cheating husband.
4. blind (s.o.) to (s.t.)
封閉某人的消息，不讓他得知或接觸某些事。
e.g. By controlling the media, governments blind people to the truth.
5. the blind leading the blind
字面上的意思是「盲人引導瞎子」。
真正的意思是用來說「外行指導外行」， 明明不會還去教別人，類似「問道於盲」。
e.g. It was a case of the blind leading the blind when my dad taught my mom about using a computer.
6. In the country of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.
在盲人國裡，獨眼的人可稱王。
類似「山中無老虎，猴子稱大王」。沒有能人，所以普通人物亦能稱王稱霸。
雖然一個人不算太有才華，但只要跟其他人相比是強的就好了。
7. like stealing acorns from a blind pig
字面上的意思是「偷瞎豬的橡子」。
真正的意思是用來說一件事很容易就可以達成。
e.g. Acing the test was like stealing acorns from a blind pig.
8. rob someone blind
有兩個含意....
(a) 肆無忌憚的偷竊某人的東西
e.g. My grandmother's aide is robbing her blind.
(b) 敲某人竹槓 / 坑某人
e.g. I was robbed blind on my vacation. The locals often overcharge tourists.
